My Parents were right.

Can we all just agree that high school, college, and our early 20’s were NOT the best years of our lives? While they were fun, and we would kill to have the problems now that we had then, they were awkward and hard. Can we also agree that given the chance we would maybe do things a bit different. If you are of the small percentage that say those were your BEST years, well kudos to you because you obviously knew more than I did about life, love and…..fashion choices.

There comes a time when you have to admit “MY PARENTS WERE RIGHT!”(face palm) That can be a hard pill to swallow. I thought I knew it all and was not going to listen to anyone. Obviously many of my child like mistakes have formed me into the person I am today. However, if I could go back and tell my former self a few things (not that the little stubborn bitch would listen) this is what I would say.

  1. Stop tanning– Tanned skin is a result of damage to skin cells. This causes  wrinkles, age spots, premature aging and skin cancer. Embrace your inner ivory!
  2. You have to start at the bottom–  It’s a great place to start. If you don’t start at the bottom you won’t appreciate being at the top.
  3.  Your problems aren’t really problems– Unless we’re talking about hunger, homelessness,or something of the like,  whatever is standing in between you and a feeling of inner peace isn’t really important. This too shall pass.
  4. Trust your gutThe feeling is there for a reason and it is usually right.
  5.  Slow down–  One day, you’re going to be married, have 3 kids and ALOT of responsibility.  Just enjoy this time you have to be young, and hopefully care free.
  6. Credit cards are NOT free money–  repeat after me “A credit card is not a debit card.” Pay your cards off monthly.
  7. Your sibling/s will be your BFF’s– You might not like them now, but I promise, they will be your best friend sooner than you think.
  8. Weed out the bad Those people in your life who make you wonder why you even hang out with them?  Drop ’em. Weed them out. People change. Sometimes you can’t save them. Don’t be drug down.
  9. Be a Blessing– Be a positive influence. Simple acts of kindness can make others and you much happier.
  10. Your parents are RADTreat them as such. They have feelings. While you think they are annoying now, you will love hanging with them later.
  11. Your parents are RIGHT–  As a mom myself now, I can for sure say that NO ONE loves you more or has your best interest more at heart than your folks. Listen to them and learn from their mistakes.Your parents truly love you and want the best for you. Listen to them. Trust them. Love them. Honor them.
  12. Think before you speak you can’t take words back. Think twice.
  13. Your body is bangin’ Someday you will wish you could be this “fat” again.
  14. Sex is not love If sex is the only activity a guy is interested in, he’s not going to make you his girlfriend. Guys who are in it for more than just the physical will call to ask how your day was, take you in public, and introduce you to their friends.
  15. Blacked out Drunk is not a good look for youYou are the talk of the event (not for a good reason), will probably make some very stupid decisions. No one thinks it’s cute.
  16. Leave your eyebrows alone– Those are meant to be there. Put down the tweezers.
  17. Tell people what they mean to you–  The future is unpredictable and the people in your life now may not always be there. Tell the people you love, that you love them.
  18. Build your faith and beliefs– Find Jesus, Talk to him, and build your own personal walk with him. This does not require a church or pastor.
  19. In relationships It’s less important to be with someone who is hot, and more important to be with someone who makes you laugh (but aim for both).
  20. Say NO– Learn to say no without following up with an excuse. You don’t owe an explanation to anyone.
  21. No Tattoos(until after your 25)You will end up with leopard print cherries on your not so tight and stretch marked stomach.
  22. Sunscreen and skin care-Your skin is your biggest organ and assett. Take care of it.
  23. Red lipstick is pretty much always the answer because Red Lipstick. Because I said so.

There are too many things to list but I will save those for my littles!

Hope your Sunday was filled with Football, Family and Fun!
