Thankful

When I started this blog, I made a promise to myself that I would only write when I had “spare time” because I didn’t want to take any more of myself away from my family. I also said that I would never just write to write, but would write when I felt something was important or I felt passionate about something.  With that, I apologize for the long pause between blogs but I have been VERY busy with this family of 5 with the holidays among us, and quite frankly, post election after watching how people have been behaving I haven’t had much to say.

I had been preparing a different piece for this week but tragedy has struck too close to home,  so abort mission and am just gonna wing it today.

Last night I walked in from work at 10pm and heard the horrible news that a TPD officer had died in the line of duty and found myself frantically going through my list of friends or friends wives that work in law enforcement. Making sure they were OK(physically anyway) and that they were home with their families. We all watched in disbelief that something like this could be happening so close to home again.

I feel as though in the midst of the recent tragedies, police officers have not received the honor and thanks they deserve. I have many friends that are cops, dispatchers and first responders.  I have seen the effect these jobs have on them, and I see what it puts their families through. I cannot express my gratitude enough. THANK YOU.

Thank you for putting us, your community or town that you serve above your family.  I know you give up holidays, sporting events, and birthdays.  When duty calls, you drop everything and respond. One of the wives I sent a text to last night said her husband was home but “as soon as he got the call he threw on his uniform and went to help.” You give up so much of your family life to serve and protect.

Thank you for risking your life for mine. Every time you put your uniform on, you put our safety above yours.  Every time you leave home for another shift, you are not guaranteed to return. But you still answer every call and do what it takes to make sure no one gets hurt.

Most importantly, thank you for doing a job most of us could NOT do. It takes a strong and brave person to do what you have to do everyday.

I’m writing this to make sure that police officers every where know that there are still people out there who are extremely thankful for all you do.

In closing I want to say to anyone who looks at cops with disdain or negativity. Anyone who shares and over shares posts about police brutality and clumps all of these brave men and women into that category,  The next time you need help or have an emergency, I sure as hell hope you don’t dial 911 because you do not deserve their protection. And if you do, even though you don’t deserve it, they will still be there to put their lives before yours. Because they are heroes.

You ALL are heroes. Period. This mom is beyond thankful for you.

I know that you are a tight knit family and I am so sorry for the sadness and loss you are experiencing today. My heart breaks for you.
